Females Understanding Educating Leading)
F.U.E.L.
Through listening sessions with middle school girls, F.U.E.L. was built to respond directly to their needs—addressing challenges such as declining self-esteem, lack of proper equipment, and limited support for after-school activities. The program emphasizes the positive impact of sports, including building confidence, fostering friendships, and developing teamwork and resilience.
F.U.E.L. provides support through two primary avenues. First, a school-year curriculum called SURGE, offered in partnership with BSN Sports, equips girls with tools and education focused on leadership, wellness, and personal development. Second, the annual F.U.E.L. Summit brings together 250–300 middle school girls from across OKC and Tulsa for a day of connection, inspiration, and growth. The Summit features small group learning, breakout sessions on leadership and career exploration, and opportunities to hear from female leaders in sports.
Girls are significantly less likely than boys to participate in sports and are more likely to drop out during adolescence. Yet, research shows that the vast majority of women in leadership roles played sports growing up. F.U.E.L. is working to close this gap by providing girls with the encouragement, resources, and opportunities they need to stay active and grow into confident leaders.
By continuing to listen and evolve based on student feedback, F.U.E.L. is building a stronger, more confident, and more connected generation of young women—both in the game and beyond.
